Story

I have created this page to enable myself and other members of my nearest and dearest to raise money and awareness of the terrible illness that is Ideopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis. This devastating disease took my darling Dad from this world on May the 23rd 2012 and all who knew him will mourn his loss forever. My husband James, Myself and some close friends shall be attending sporting events and encouraging people to sponsor us in aid of IPF. The Auckland Marathon in the November of 2013 is the event that My Husband James aspires to complete, Myself, not a big runner will attemp the Auckland Half Marathon. Our logo for this event will be a pink bowtie. My father was on the Holcombe Gentlemans Rugby Football Club commitee and I can think of nothing more appropriate to wear than this in his honor, perhaps a union jack flag. We shall see as the event progresses. My family feel passionately about raising money and awareness for this cause as little is known about the disease, its process, how it progressess and what the available treatment options for its sufferers are. It is important to provide support to sufferers of IPF throughout their illness and also to their family as they all go though the hardships. Please help by donating any small amount towards this cause and help fund research, treatment, support for all who need it. So an Update... A couple of days ago I entered to run the Auckland half marathon which takes place on November 3rd 2013. I have never before run anything like this distance, but I am looking forwards to the challenge. I suspect that it will be an emotional journey, but one that I look forwards to completing for my Dad. All your support is appreciated. My goal is to complete the half marathon and raise funds for IPF to raise awareness of this terrible illness. Todays date is Saturday the 13th March, I have a little under 30 weeks until the big day. All funds raised will go towards the breath of life foundation and channelled directly into the IPF charity. I will look into other fun raising events in the run up to the Auckland Half. More updates to follow. So there is about ten weeks to go until the half marathon happens. I am getting into my training and wherever I run i see your face Dad and it spurs me on. I miss you every day. You inspired me everyday of my life and you continue to inspire me now. Most people that know me know that I am no runner, sporty yes, but running is not my favourite activity. This is the event it has to be though and I shall share with you all why now. When I cross that finish line in ten weeks it will have been two years to the day that you were last in New Zealand. We all waited while James finished his first full marathon and we were all so proud and then we all got into the car and took mum and you to the airport. I still remember the car journey, and the hug I gave you both at the departure lounge. So we run, we run in your memory and we run for IPF and the British Lung Foundation. James is again running the full marathon having sworn he would never again do it. So I say bring on the sores, the muscle aches and pains as its all worth it if we can help research into IPF. I love you Dad. Your Hat. xx Thank you. Hattie Bretherton Heneghan
